The true religion is the same for everyone.

1

It is bad enough that people do not know God, but what is worst of all is that people recognize as God that which is not God.

— Lactantius

2

Religious differences—what a strange expression! Of course, there can be different beliefs in historical events, passed down from generation to generation for the reinforcement of religion. Likewise, there can be different religious books (the Avesta, the Vedas, the Quran, etc.). But there can only be one true religion for all times. All the different faiths cannot be anything other than a means of assisting religion, a means that is accidental and which differs according to the differences of time and place.

— Kant

3

It is only possible to believe in something that what we know, something which undoubtedly exists, but which we cannot grasp with reason and express in words.

4

We give too much credit to most people when we say that they profess this or that religion. For they do not know and are not looking for any religion; a statutory church faith is what they understand this word to mean. And the so-called religious wars, which had so often shocked the world and flooded it with blood, have never been anything other than disputes over church faith; and the people who have complained about religious oppression have complained, in essence, not about their being prevented from belonging to their religion, for this is something no external force can do, but about their not being allowed to publicly follow their church faith.

— Kant

5

The assertion that you are in falsehood and I am in truth is the most cruel word that a person can say to another, especially when this concerns the most important thing in the world. And meanwhile, this is what people say to each other when they argue about religion.

6

If you are a Muslim, go and live with Christians; if you are a Christian, live with the Jews; if you are a Catholic, live with the Orthodox. Whatever your religion, communicate with people of other faiths. If what they say does not offend you and you can freely communicate with them, then you have attained peace. Hafez said: the object of all religions is the same; everyone is searching for love, and the whole world is the abode of love; so what is the point in talking about mosques or churches?

— Sufi wisdom

7

A true believer is not the one who blindly follows a certain teaching or the Bible, but the one who has faith that a pure conscience and clear mind are the surest expressions of God’s will.

— Herbert Bigelow
