Faith is not faith if life disagrees with it.
Everyone therefore who hears these words of mine and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on a rock. The rain came down, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.
Everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. The rain came down, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell—and its fall was great.
— Matthew 7:24–27
Death is inevitable for everything that has been born, just as birth is inevitable for everything mortal. Therefore do not complain about what is inevitable. The past state of beings is unknown, the present state is obvious, the future state cannot be known—what then should we care and worry about? Some people view the soul as a miracle, others speak and listen about it with wonder, but no one knows anything about it.
The door of heaven is open for you to the extent that you need it. Free yourself of cares and worries and focus your soul on the spiritual. Let your actions be guided by you and not by events. Do not be one of those people who act for the sake of being rewarded. Be attentive, fulfill your duty and do not think about consequences, so that it will not matter to you whether your actions succeed or fail.
— Bhagavata
What good is it, my brothers, if a man says he has faith, but has no works? Can faith save him? And if a brother or sister is naked and in lack of daily food, and one of you tells them, “Go in peace. Be warmed and filled;” yet you did not give them the things the body needs, what good is it? Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead in itself. Yes, a man will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without works, and I will show you my faith by my works.
You see then that by works, a man is justified, and not only by faith. For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, even so faith apart from works is dead.
— James 2:14–18, 24, 26
The one who knows the law but does not follow it is akin to a man who plows but does not sow.
— Eastern wisdom
If a person does not hasten to fulfill that which he acknowledges to be God’s law, then he believes neither in God, nor in his law.
